Coaches
The MAG-South Swim Club coaching staff consists of dedicated and experienced professionals.  The coaches will report to the Board of Directors concerning team matters, but the swim program will be under the direction of the head coach.  Meetings between parents and coaches are encouraged.

Head Coach Carl Cederquist has a degree in Physical Education from Northeastern University, with an emphasis in aquatics. Carl has more than 30 years of coaching experience where he has coached swimmers from the beginner level to the National and Olympic Trials level.  His swimmers hold many National Age Group records, New England records and Top Ten as well as Top 16 rankings. Carl received the New England Coach of the year award in 2002 and 2004. Carl will coach the MAG-South Senior practice groups.

Assistant Coach Stephanie Motyl swam competitively in USS swimming beginning at the age of 7 through college. Stephanie is a graduate of Springfield College and held coaching positions with Attleboro BlueFish and Seacoast Swimming. Stephanie was instrumental in the success of many swimmers coming out of these programs. Stephanie coaches the Wheaton based Mini-MAG and Age-Group practice groups.  Stephanie has over 20 years experience teaching competitive swimming to Age-groupers and is a former 2002 New England Coach of the Year.

Assistant Coach Kyle Van Den Berghe in addition to his assistant coaching role at MAG-South, Kyle is the head coach of the Bishop Feehan High School men and women’s swim teams.  Kyle is a former Atlantic-10 Champion from St. Bonaventure University, Junior National Champion, Senior National finalist and Olympic Trialist.  Kyle was High School Coach of the year in 2007 and New England Coach of the Year in 2002.

Assistant Coach Denise Foster has been coaching for over twelve years most recently as the Head Coach for the Whitinsville Blue Dolphins where she helped to grow the program producing Top Ten New England swimmers.  Previously Denise was the founding Head Coach for the Holliston High School Swim Team where she brought several swimmers to Sectionals and States.  In addition to coaching, Denise teaches swim lessons and lifeguards. 

Assistant Coach Oliver Michalewski  swam competitively in High School and at Central Connecticut State University.  During this time, he achieved all-conference and all-state recognition.  He began his coaching career in 2001 as Head Coach of the Farmington Valley Parks and Recreation swim program.  He was instrumental in restructuring the program, beginning with only a handful of swimmers, and leaving with a team of 80+ members.  Oliver joined the Whitinsville Blue Dolphins in 2005, where he was an Assistant Head Coach working with all age groups.

Special Assistant Coach JP Gowdy is the head coach of the men’s and women’s Swim Teams at Wheaton College. He has lifted Wheaton Swimming to new heights with impressive conference finishes and sending a record number of athletes to NCAA Championships.  JP came to Wheaton from Springfield College, where he was responsible for coaching sprinters; coordinating the recruiting process and handling home meet management.  JP also served as the assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and age group coach at Green Mountain Aquatics in Middlebury, Vermont.  JP earned USA Triathlon All-America honors in 2003 and 2005, trained with Canada’s National Swim Team in 1999–2000 and competed at the Olympic trials.  JP works with both the age group and senior swimmers on the MAG-South Swim Club

Noreen Foley works with Stephanie Moytl in implementing the Mini-MAG program for MAG-South. In addition, Noreen will be in charge of all swim lesson programs for MAG-South. Noreen has over 20 years of coaching and teaching experience.

Wheaton College Varsity Swimmers assist our full-time coaching staff during the short course and long course seasons as needed.  MAG-South is privileged to have several Wheaton NEWMAC finalists assist in training our swimmers on technique and swimming fundamentals.
